When I was little, my parents would treat us to Great Harvest on the occasional weekend. Unfortunately, that location closed (Chicago suburbs) but I never could get Great Harvest out of my head. Great Harvest re-entered my life when I went to college at UIUC, and words cannot express how happy I was to find out that Ann Arbor has its very own Great Harvest as well! The breads have changed since my youth, but they're still just as good as I remember. Nice and hearty - not like the bread you'll get at a grocery store bakery that's about 95% air. Great variety of sweet and savory flavors. The sandwiches are pretty good too. Not the best ever, but definitely something I would get again. And I like to think I'm not just biased by nostalgia. I threw together some breads and baked goods for a Christmas gift basket, and the recipient absolutely loved it. My biggest complaint is that it's too easy to spend a lot of money here. Most of the loaves really aren't that expensive, but when everything is so good, it adds up quickly. The jams and baking mixes definitely are on the pricy side. Oh, and the cookies weren't as good as I was expecting. I love a big, soft, chewy, fresh baked cookie, but these were much drier than I like. It didn't taste stale or anything, but it wasn't my style of cookie.

I used to come here to acquire one thing: the chocolate cherry bomb. Sliced and toasted, there is nothing quite like it. Sometimes I still think about this bread... and I live in California now! Doesn't that say it all?

Simple, tasty breads that are freshly baked and warm. I was invited here by a friend, having never been, and gotta say that the grilled/toasted sandwiches were extremely tasty on a cold windy day! It's not fancy, for sure, but solid sandwiches that are a real steal at $5-7. Oh, and do enjoy the free samples of bread, among them a four cheese loaf (more like pizza) and an apple pie loaf--which honestly was a pastry masquerading as bread. Best of all: the samples were warm! The seating is limited, so takeout is a great option. It's a tad Midwestern, but hey, sometimes this region dishes out tasty, hearty fare, and that's true at Great Harvest.

Great sandwich and bread. They are all good! We are from LA and to us, the price is very affordable. It tastes great and the owners are very nice!! Recommend!!!

I stopped in here to get something nice for my mother for her dinner. She likes sweet breads but can't have nuts or seeds. I have never had a problem finding something here. The Apple Blosssom bread and the Pumpkin Chocolate Chip bread are excellent. At the front desk they have a list of all the breads they will be making for August and when they will be in the store. Coconut Cream sounds like it would be a winner! I will be stopping back for sure!

Who can resist the smell of fresh baked bread? Lured in, wow, I was not disappointed. A huge tasting station greets the customer. Mega slices of savory and sweet products await the hungry. When you get a sample the size of your hand and about as thick, you know these quintessential Ann Arborites are here to stay. Oh yes, Thursdays are GF (gluten free) bake days. I'm hooked and I'm in.

When we walked in, we offered a slice of fresh bread...They had oatmeal cookies and wonderful looking breads. A little expensive, I paid $7 for 6 cookies...Too bad we had already eaten because the sandwiches sounded amazing.

I've never been here but every so often my coworker brings in a few of their chocolate cookies to share with the staff and they are possibly the best cookies I've ever tasted. Dense, chewy, chocolately, with a soft gooey middle, and slight crisp edges. Having never set foot in the store or tasting any of their other products, I give Great Harvest Bread Co. 5 stars alone on the strength of this cookie.

I love it 'cause of fresh bread, wonderful flavor (love the cranberry varieties), generous samples, good bold coffee, very friendly staff, and discount coupons available through various Ann Arbor publications lol. Hours make it difficult to get to during the day and it's a bit far for some but it's worth it. I wish they were open more over the weekend. 5 stars, love it.

I don't know what those other people are talking about. I love breads, especially soft rolls and thick hearty loaves of multi-grain, but both times I came in here I left without finding anything to buy (and in the 3-4 minutes that took nobody asked if I needed help). They had dessert breads and hard-as-rock bread and various other unhealthy options. I mean, all over the world I go into bakeries and end up buying more bread than I can possibly finish in time, but here I couldn't find anything to buy...and I was super-hungry when I went the most recent time. So, clearly I'm not looking for the same thing as the other reviewers, but I am looking for the thing that I usually go into bakeries for: bread. And I didn't see anything worth sampling or buying. So, maybe you're like me and looking for tasty, soft, and savory breads...in that case this is not the place for you either.

Haiku # 26 Hot, sweet aromas Cinnamon crunch, Guinness-cheese Another sample please? Top Five Reasons to love Great Harvest 1. Fresh, baked daily bread that would put your grandmother's homemade bread to shame 2. Unlimited free samples of said bread (get there at the right time and your bound to encounter warm, soft slices and delicious fresh butter and jam--who needs lunch when you can fill up on Great Harvest?) 3. Not up for a lunch made entirely of bread (clearly we don't see eye to eye!)? GHBC has a full sandwich menu--delish ingredients piled high on that amazing bread! 4. The pull-apart cinnamon rolls! But watch out, these babies are seriously dangerous. Just one bite can lead to devouring an entire pie pan...by yourself...not that I've done it... 5. Cookies! Need I say more? (I recommend the chocolate chip and the oatmeal raisin) The only downside? This place closes at 6PM weekdays and 4PM Saturday (and often sells out before), so get down there quick!

This place is amazing! Their breads are delicious, the soups are great and the sandwiches are awesome. They do lots of cute promotions too...I'm not ashamed to tell you that I have colored a picture of a groundhog so I could get a free piece of bread shaped like a groundhog on Groundhog's Day. (I have never, for the record, written the word groundhog so many times in a row). I tend to go in there and sample like 87 things and no one ever rolls their eyes or says anything. I'm always waiting for them to slap my hand away, but they are way too cool to do that :) Seriously, it's a great bakery with a very nice staff.

Extremely friendly and offer free bread for tasting when you walk in. It's not cheap but it's delicious. They have sandwiches made to order. It does take a long time but it's worth it. Best sandwiches are the goat cheese fig and prochuitto and the pesto, fresh mozzarella and pepperoni. Always very busy in side and only two tables for 2 to sit at. Best for take out.

Great Harvest is really great first of all because you can sample any of their fresh warm breads. And as many as you like. The samples are real bread sized slices. You could definitely have a meal sampling the breads and other goodies here. Two of the most excellent things here are the asiago pesto bread and the five grain bread (has more fiber than the twelve grain). Make sure you don't go home alone with the asiago pesto bread because you might devour it in one sitting. Cinnamon crunch bread is great too, the best thing about it is that it doesn't have raisins in it! I hate raisins and whenever there is something cinnamon it always has those nasty things in it. I am also completely shocked to learn today that this place is a chain. I would have never guessed by the quality of the bread.

Great Harvest bread is amazing. It's hard to believe that bread can taste that good. I really like the Cinnamon Crunch at breakfast and Asiago Pesto with any Italian Dish. The people that work there are always extremely friendly and helpful and allow you to sample different breads. In my opinion there is only one flaw of the Great Harvest Bread Company, and it's the price... I realize that they only sell bread and have to make their money somewhere, but I'm in college.. and paying $6.50 for a loaf of bread that i can eat in one sitting is a little on the rough side... so maybe when I have a job and can afford more, i'll be able to give great harvest 5 stars..

Not all bread is created equal, Great Harvest stands out among local bakeries. There is something wonderful about Great Harvest, their breads are denser and chewier, not drier and crunchy. If you can find the asiago pesto loaf, buy it! They offer samples, so you can be sure you will like what you buy.

Delicious fresh bread made on premises. Loaves are chewy and toothsome, and generally keep well for a few days. The Cinnamon Crunch bread makes the most delicious french toast imaginable! Free slices of bread given with a smile, I've sampled 2-3 different breads at a time before buying without any attitude from behind the counter.

I used to go to Great Harvest Bread Co. a lot long time ago, but haven't been back in a while... then my sister while visiting the states got some loaf of breads from there and I had to return. My favorite is the Apple Pie Crunch! I love it so much, bought two loaf of it. Love having this in the morning... couple slices heated with coffee... most excellent! Unfortunately, they close early and since I don't get out of work until after 6pm, it's hard for me to stop by... so the only option is to stop by early in the morning :) I have so many other breads to try... I'm in big trouble :)
